READING AND WRITING INTERVENTION

Effective, evidence based strategies based in Orton Gillingham, among others. Individualized lessons target decoding, spelling, vocabulary, writing, and grammar skills. Each session is engaging and motivating as the student achieves success at each step.

PSYCHO-EDUCATIONAL EVALUATIONS

Thorough, efficient process to clarify areas of need and diagnose learning disabilities where applicable, such as dyslexia or dysgraphia. Our evaluations help families achieve a better understanding of their child’s strengths and needs and secure appropriate support for their child.

Experience

In the past 30 years, Amy has worked with hundreds of students as a speech-language pathologist: in a classroom setting in public schools in the Chicago area, at Ravinia Reading Center in Highland Park, Illinois and in her private practice in Madison, Wisconsin. In addition to supporting students and families, she has maintained positive, supportive connections with public school teachers through her volunteer work with students who are struggling with reading and writing, and through teacher training.

Effective Approach

Amy uses only evidence-based practices, proven methods that achieve results for all children struggling to read, including those diagnosed with dyslexia. Her background as a speech-language pathologist gives her the ability to critically evaluate student strengths and weaknesses at each step, constantly fine-tuning intervention to meet the needs of the student.

Advocacy

Amy assists families to navigate the process of getting support and accommodations for their child’s learning difficulties in school. Meeting with teachers, counselors and principals is a service she gladly provides to help parents feel more confident in advocating for their children.

Relationships

As a teacher, it is so important to be skilled at balancing the roles of task-master and trusted, fun-loving friend. Amy strives to build a friendly rapport and mutual respect, so that students are inspired to do the tough work required of them. Invariably, this relationship, built on trust and kindness, is the key to a student’s willingness to put forth the work required to build their skills and gain confidence.

Reading, Spelling, & Writing Intervention

At Inspire Reading and Writing, we provide research-based, tailored intervention to target areas of need while maintaining expectations and pacing that keeps students feeling motivated and successful. We provide instruction in all areas of language, including vocabulary and grammar, to support reading comprehension and writing skills.

Comprehensive Psychoeducational Evaluations

Evaluations clarify areas of need and diagnose learning disabilities as well as oral language delays or disorders, where applicable. Even if a diagnosis is not made, parents or guardians will still receive a thorough description of their child’s strengths and areas of need and recommendations for what to do next.
